Charger’s Ride

Charger’s Ride was written for the beginning band students of Cedarcrest Middle School and inspired by their mascot: The Charger. In a fast minor key, the piece captures the challenge of learning an instrument, comparing new techniques and early frustrations to the intensity of battle. Like a medieval war horse surging forward, these young musicians press on with determination, gaining strength and confidence with every measure.

“Bold and driving, Charger’s Ride by Emily Graham is a Grade 1.5 work that brings the power and determination of a medieval war horse to life. Set in C minor and 4/4 time, the piece captures the strength, speed, and forward momentum of a charger surging into battle.

Strong rhythms, focused melodic writing, and active percussion create an engaging and accessible experience for developing ensembles. Reflecting the perseverance of young musicians as they build new skills, Charger’s Ride is both a musical adventure and a celebration of growth. An exciting choice for concert or festival performance.”
